High school civics teachers are gathered at SIUE June 29 and 30 where they are learning strategies for bringing the proven practices of discussion of current and controversial issues, service learning and simulations into their classrooms. The training, led by McCormick Foundation staff, is centered around the theme "Teaching the 2016 Election & Beyond." Joined by Illinois Civics Teacher Mentors and the Constitutional Rights Foundation-Chicago, as well as Teaching with Primary Sources, we're proud to be a part of the team helping to bring civics back in southwestern Illinois. The two day training is part of the McCormick Foundation's summer civics tour, building teacher capacity throughout the state to meet the requirements of Illinois' new civic law.
